Join us this Thurs. 10/8 at 7 PM at Common Ground for an interesting New Dimensions radio interview with renown psychologist, para-psychologist and Noetic scientist, Charles Tart. It is a most interesting interview that gets into dream theory, out of body experiences and consciousness beyond the body. It is entitled, "Spiritual Beings in a Material World".

IONS Community Meet Up on Thurs. Sept. 10
Hi Everyone,
Just to notify you of our once a month get together of IONS at Common Ground on Thurs. Sept. 10 at 7PM. In keeping with the last gathering that focused on Dr. Raymond Moody's, Through the Tunnel and Beyond,
which dealt with the investigation into an area of consciousness related to NDE's and life as pure consciousness that transcends to another dimension beyond physical death, we are going to look at the work this month of Dr. Gary Schwartz, PhD., who wrote,The Afterlife Experiments. The DVD we will be using will present Dr. Schwartz at a Consciousness Conference where he was a presenter who discussed the experiences he documented in his book, and his association with physicist, Elizabeth Targ, who passed away in the early 2000's at a young age. His presentation is quite interesting and in keeping with the work done by Dr. Moody and Elizabeth Kubler-Ross.
Join us for this interesting glimpse into the findings of Dr. Schwartz on the topic --Does consciousness survive the death of the body? We will have an open discussion after the presentation is viewed. Looking forward to seeing you then.

"One Voice in the Cosmic Fugue"
Hi IONS Friends,
Just to update you on this month's program which is this Thurs. July 9 at 7PM. A number of us thought it would be fun and exciting to take one of Carl Sagan's programs from the series, COSMOS, done in the 1980's, to view it, and then through discussion compare THEN and NOW--what is different? What have we learned since that time? What gains have been made?
What in Sagan's presentation was a projection of the future that we still share, and what do we know now that is different?
It is also helpful to think in terms of where we were literally and figuratively during the 1980's and where we are now in our
beliefs, knowledge, and ways of living. I think this could be a fascinating night of discussion. Hope to see you there.

IONS Thurs. 6/11 Gathering--"Taking Heart in a Dark Time"
IONS, Tustin, will be meeting this Thurs. June 11 at Common Ground for our monthly focus on a topic that is centered on the study of Consciousness, and the movement from an old paradigm of growth and destruction, to a new paradigm of Global Oneness and beneficial, productive alternatives to healing our lives and our planet. From here on out, we are called upon to be part of the solution, not the problem that has been plaguing life on earth.
Joanna Macy, noted Buddhist scholar, systems theorist, ecologist, teacher and activist, will be our focus as we listen to an
interview between Macy and IONS host, Cassandra Vieten from August 2008. The program is about 35 minutes in length, and
allows ample time for us all to share our views on the topic she addresses from a personal and collective point of view.
This is a rare opportunity to listen to an off the cuff, Joanna Macy, speak on a topic to which she has dedicated her life.

IONS Meeting Thurs. March 12
Hi Again,
Well, after careful consideration of program possibilities for this month, it seems timely to provide a program that has been
recommended by IONS former president, James O'Dea--The Fourth Turning by William Strauss and Dean Howe, both
social historians with an understanding of economic life factors as well. Though the program this time is not an audio or
DVD presentation by a physicist, mathematician, cosmologist, or spiritual teacher, it is one by two Futurists who noted in
their 1997 book, The Fourth Turning, that this country, and indeed the world was headed for the final cycle in a turning
cycle of four that advances throughout the centuries, and which as Ervin Laszlo, the great physicist, indicates is in a sequence
of growth, maturation, unraveling, and destruction. Laszlo called the fourth cycle "The Crunch". Both authors, using the history of the U.S. as their backdrop recognized the 1990's and early 2000's as a cycle of unraveling that would lead to a fourth turning
somewhere around 2007 - 2010. That they appear to have been spot correct in their assertion as we may interpret the present
decline and demise of our socio-economic structure as we have known it, they never claimed to have any extra-sensory ability
to predict the future, but used a logical application that has been with us all throughout the centuries--that all of life is sequential and goes through the same phases over and over again as does the entirety of the cosmos. This reflection on human
activity, development, and the stages of growth and consciousness tell us much about how we present as human beings, and
humans on a pathway that is repetitive and also evolving our consciousness. Never before have we, humans, been at the helm
of a global ship. Where it goes, and what it does greatly depends on those who control the wheel and switches. The
universal patterns all intermix as we chart our personal, national, and global courses. This program is one that causes each of
us to see broadly the ramifications of past, present, and future, and each sets the stage for new turnings. It's a powerful,
insightful program that takes us back in history, and propels us forward to new views of our collective future on planet earth.

March 12 IONS Meeting

be determined, but will be in keeping with the study of consciousness.
